Can aluminum castings be cast in investment casting?

Investment casting process flow
1. Wax mold production: First, use a mold to manufacture wax molds. These wax molds are precise replicas of future metal castings. The production of wax molds usually involves steps such as wax injection, cooling, and trimming.
2. Shell formation: The wax mold is wrapped in refractory materials, usually silica sand or ceramic slurry, to form a multi-layer shell. After each layer is dried, apply another layer of slurry until the required thickness is achieved.
3. Wax mold melting: Heat the shell to a high temperature, causing the wax mold to completely melt and flow out, leaving a cavity. This process is called dewaxing.
4. Pouring: Inject molten aluminum into the cavity of the shell, cool it to form the final casting.
5. Cleaning and post-treatment: After the casting cools down, the shell material is removed, and subsequent processing such as polishing and heat treatment is carried out to achieve the required dimensional accuracy and surface smoothness.
